Meeting Format Definitions
The meeting format definitions below describe key characteristics of
the meetings that establish focus for participation. The described
format does not necessarily take up the entire meeting time. For
example, a Book Study will typically only use 10 - 15 minutes for
reading. The rest of the time is for sharing. While
attendees are typically encouraged to share how they relate to what was
read, this is not a requirement.
Each meeting is free to choose its own format and how it appies to the
way the meeting is run. This is usually described at the beginning
of the meeting by the meeting leader.
Most meetings have a certain amount of flexibility so that as many as
possible can share.
- Anorexic Focus
- The focus of the meeting is on social, spiritual and sexual anorexia.
- Book Study
- The group reads a portion of a recovery related book (typically selected by a group vote) each week and then discusses what was read.
- Closed
- Attendance at closed meetings is limited to people who have a personal desire to stop living out a destructive pattern of sexual behavior. This means that students or others doing research, friends and supporters of someone seeking help or anyone else who personally does not have the problem should find an open meeting to attend.
- Men Only
- Attendance is limited to men only.
- Mixed
- Men and women in attendance.
- Speaker
- A portion of the meeting time is devoted to one person sharing their experience, strength and hope as it relates to their recovery from Sex and Love Addiction. This person is normally selected by the group Secretary in advance.
- Step Study
- The focus of the meeting is on one of the Twelve Steps. Usually covered in sequence from week to week as described in either the S.L.A.A book or another 12 Step text.
- Women Only
- Attendance is limited to women only.
